How many good security people are we rejecting before anyone has actually spoken to them?
I've been hearing from people trying to get their first role in InfoSec, and experienced professionals struggling to get an interview. So I put my own CV out to see what happened. I wasn't looking for a job. I wanted to understand what they were dealing with.
Decades in security, running a consultancy, fractional CISO work, building teams and delivering projects. Rejection after rejection.
That alone doesn't tell me how each decision was made, but it certainly gave me a taste of the frustration.
In this Razorwire RAW, I'm talking about the state of recruitment: ridiculous job specifications, AI screening CVs, AI interviewers, and where an actual conversation with a human being fits into any of it.
I understand that hiring teams have a lot of applications to get through. But if your screening process throws out the people you need, what have you actually saved?
And if experienced people are struggling to get through the door, what chance are we giving those trying to start their careers?
